Curriculum / Description

Originally from Ballarat, Adam Simmons plays saxophones, clarinets, flutes, shakuhachi, fujara, toys and graduated from Victorian College of the Arts in 1992. Since then, Adam has been an integral contributor to the Melbourne music scene, with regular national and international performances, working with artists from USA, Japan, Poland, France, Germany, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Greece and New Caledonia.
Adam’s own ensembles include: Origami, Collider, Adam Simmons Quartet, Adam Simmons Toy Band, Adam Simmons Creative Music Ensemble and New Blood.
Adam has directed/curated events including Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues (2017-18), Festival of Slow Music (2013-15) and the Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival (2005-7).
Adam offers artist services via his consultancy, The Usefulness of Art, including grant-writing, mentoring and advocacy and has been an active member of the World Jazz Network since 2016.
