A new and intriguing project by saxophonist and composer Biagio Coppa who with this Trio continues to move forward with the development of his own original language, entirely lacking or free from predictable and intuitive way of behaving.
The music is a fusion of downtown New York and avant-garde European creative music.
The name INTREPID Trio and the title of the project, “CURSED LOCATION”, express very well the qualities of the musicians and the frame of reference with which they intend to operate: risk, “instrumental disability”, open-mindedness, willingness to have fun are the elements fundamentals at stake… which, after all, are also the qualities required of the listener to enjoy MUSIC.
For at least 25 years, Biagio Coppa’s music has been offering the most adventurous and courageous listeners a fascinating alternative to mainstream jazz.
About Biagio Coppa
• Attended workshops directed by Dave Liebman, Steve Lacy, Misha Mengelberg, Bill Pierce, Joe Lovano, Larry Smith, Gino Robair and Sabine Vogel (soundpainting conduction technique), to mention just a few.
• Starting from 1996 studied the possible evolution of Steve Coleman’s musical proposal linked to the M-Base movement and the extension and application of the Harmolodic concept of Ornette Coleman.
• Studied the influence that contemporary music (Schonberg, Weber, Kagel, Feldman, Cage…) could have on the construction of an improvised personal language, in particular studying dodecaphony, seriality and aleatory music, negative harmony and the studies on rhythmic perception, typical of the spectral music (Gerard Grisey).
• Actively involved in “synesthesia” projects mostly concerning videos and theatre performances.
