Quietet (from Poland) won the 7VJC Contest 9th edition in the Under 25’s category. They was formed in early 2023 as a result of the meeting of five talented musicians with a deep passion for music creation. Their sound is a unique fusion of jazz and classical music with a touch of heavy rock. They draw inspiration from the Scandinavian approach to music, which brings a distinctive atmosphere and melodies to their work. Their music captivates listeners with its originality, refined improvisations, and impeccable technique. Both classical and modern music trends inspire them to create compositions full of passion and emotions. Their artistic output is filled with sound experiments that surprise and open up new musical horizons. Through their compositions, „quietet” aims to share their emotions evoked during performances, creating a musical journey that affects and inspires.
How did you learn to play? Where did you study?
I started attending to music school when I was 10 years old. Now I study at music academy in Katowice, master’s degree.
Who are the musicians that influenced you the most?
it depends at what point in my life we are talking because inspirations are constantly changing but at this moment I can say that the greatest influence exert on me musicians such as: Arve Henriksen, Ambrose Akinmusire, WEBAND, Samora Pinderhughes, Ibrahim Maalouf.
What are your thoughts and opinions on today’s jazz scene?
The today’s jazz scene is very diverse. You can build something unique on the basis of jazz and add something completely different to it. I don’t know when a jazz genre ends and another begins, I don’t think about it. Music is so various now and I like it!
Can you tell us more about your experience with the 7 Virtual Jazz Club?
I half-heartedly applied to the 7 Virtual Jazz Club. For the first time, I was surprised that we passed the first stage. Then, when I saw how competitive is that contest, my belief in winning diminished and I honestly stopped thinking about it. You can imagine how surprised I was that we won! I’m very happy with this. I think that the awards we have won will help us develop the band.
What are your upcoming projects?
„quietet” has not officially started yet, but we plan it for the beginning of November. At the end of the same month, the album on which we will appear will be released by the Polish label “U Know Me Records”, with bands such as: Immortal Onion, USO 9001, Rejoin, Klawo, Kosmos, Twoosty Mayonez. We are already planning to record more songs and shoot music videos, so there will be a lot going on!
