5 Best Puerto Rico Jazz Albums 2023: Sammy Figueroa – Searching for a Memory

Sammy Figueroa – Searching for a Memory

A true gem, “Searching for a Memory,” is a musical journey by Maestro Sammy Figueroa in search of the memory of his father, the percussionist Charlie Figueroa, whom Sammy barely knew.

One of the best moments in this production is Sammy Figueroa’s performance of the Bolero “Busco tu Recuerdo,” which was popular in his father’s voice.

The masterful performances in the powerful voice of Aymée Nuviola in “Como Arrullo de Palmas”, “Madrigal”, “Culpa al Destino” and “El Último Suspiro” also stand out.

Accompanying Sammy; Ludwig Alfonso on drums, the virtuoso Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba and the great Puerto Rican bassist Ricardo Rodríguez.

Among the several excellent guests, the alto saxophone of the Puerto Rican Miguel Zenón stands out in the songs, “Como Arrullo de Palmas” and “Añoranzas”.
